Welcome to my personal web pages. Although now formally retired I am currently an Emeritus Professor at Aston University, UK with an interest in technology and operations management. I live in the UK and Sweden (joint resident). From 2012 to 2024 I was a Guest Professor / Affiliated Professor at Chalmers University, Sweden and until 2011 I was Professor of Technology Management at the Business School of Aston University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accredited). From 1994 to 2017 I was an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia, and before becoming an academic I worked as an engineer in the automotive components and electrical equipment industries. My main teaching activity has been in international operations and technology management / technology transfer. My expertise and ongoing research interests are concerned with issues related to operations systems design for manufacturing, management of technology and the transfer of technology between industrialised and developing countries, especially in the Asian region. I have authored and co-authored several books as well as numerous articles in my areas of specialisation, while my research support has been provided by the UK research councils as well as several other funding bodies. I have undertaken various consulting and academic assignments for a number of international and national organizations. They include the European Commission (DG RDT and DG Trade), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the National Institute of Public Administration, Malaysia (INTAN), the China-Europe Management Institute (CEMI) and the China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS). Following formal retirement from my full-time academic post I have also continued in consulting and voluntary advisory roles to various organisations including the Syrian Center for Refugees Assistance (SCRA) based in Göteborg, Sweden.
I have MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Birmingham. I am a Chartered Engineer (professional engineer registered with the UK Engineering Council), a lifetime member of Beta Gamma Sigma (the international honour society for business), and a member of several professional bodies including the International Association for Management of Technology (IAMOT), the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA), the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). I am a member of the IAMOT Board of Directors and the Management of Technology Accreditation Board (MOTAB) as well as a past President of EurOMA (the first elected President). In May 2006 I was presented with the IAMOT Award for Distinguished Achievement in Management of Technology and in April 2011 received the Association's Award for Service to the Management of Technology Community. Currently I serve on the Peer Review Colleges of the UK Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the UK Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) as well as being a regular reviewer for a number of other research funding bodies in the UK and other countries. I was Founding Editor of "Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management" and also have served on the Editorial Boards of more than 30 other academic journals. .
